In the center of beautiful Palm Springs is the Mesquite Golf & Country Club, with its 18-hole championship course along with eight shimmering lakes and seven bridges.
The course was designed by Bert Stamps in 1985, and it boasts 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4,’s, and 6’par 5’s. The fairways are lined with 800 palm trees as well as other mature native trees. Although it’s a basically short course according to championship standards, it plays 6,400 yards from the tips. It’s a great challenging course for players of all skill levels.
This club, opened in 1984, has hosted many Golden State Tour events and local PGA activities. Bob Hope and his cronies frequented the golf course in its earlier days. The course plays over a stream bed so matches are tougher when the water is higher. The clubhouse reflects the classic Spanish architecture and has over 15,000 square feet. There is a restaurant, patio, and banquet area as well as a cocktail lounge, racquetball courts, and a pro shop. There is also a pool, spa, and tennis court. The club welcomes public visitors and is open seven days a week.
Condominiums in this neighborhood have many amenities like spacious living areas, new carpeting, new paint, vaulted ceilings, and master suites with separate balconies. Schools for this area include Cahuilla Elementary, Raymond Cree Middle School, and Palm Springs High School.
The Mesquite Golf & Country Club is only about five minutes from downtown Palm Springs and just a few miles from the Palm Springs International Airport. The city relies on tourism with over a million visitors a year who come for the fine dining, lavish hotels, posh boutiques, and entertainment. Outdoor activities include swimming, hiking, tennis, golf, biking, and horseback riding. Exciting events include the Festival of Native Film & Culture, The Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
